Eric Stoltz : The first Marty McFly
For those who don’t know this popculture tidbit already, Eric Stoltz was originally supposed to have been Marty McFly in the ‘Back To The Future’ movie. Michael J. Fox was sought after for the role, but due to scheduling conflicts with his work on ‘Family Ties’ he couldn’t do the film.
Eric Stoltz was brought onto the film to play Marty McFly and filmed about half of the movie before Robert Zemeckis realized that Stoltz was not right for the party of Marty McFly since he played the comedy aspect up in a much more serious tone. Michael J. Fox’s schedule was freed up and he came in and realized Eric Stoltz on the film and became the Marty McFly we know and love today.
The crazy thing is that footage of Eric Stoltz acting against Christopher Lloyd exists, and there’s a lot of it. For diehard ‘Back To The Future’ fans, that footage will be included in the 25th anniversary DVD/ Blu-ray box set that is set to be released on October 26th. I’ve been dying to see this footage and so pleased to hear it will be a highlight of the upcoming ‘Back To The Future’ box set.
